SEPTEMBER 19th 2020

Please join us to cycle 100kms and help us reach our target to raise €10,000 to support some of Ireland’s most vulnerable children and young people.

The Paris to Nice Cycle is one of the Irish Youth Foundation’s most important fundraising events of the year. Last year a group of 8 dedicated individuals cycled 700kms in 6 days and raised a staggering €50k which was then channelled to youth projects that support vulnerable children and young people get back to education, thrive physically and mentally and become workplace ready.

One such project is the Just ASK after school Club in Greek St run by Declan Keenan:

I’m talking about young people who have a constant battle with life from the moment they’re born, from the moment they wake up in the morning, from the moment they try to make a better life. Imagine, through an accident of birth and geography – that you were born into that carnage and chaos of gangland violence on your doorstep? You are still expected to get proper sleep; get up the next morning; have your homework ready; find your own uniform; make your own way to school and try to get on with your day and perform like your peers? The challenges, risks and oppression never seem to end. No child, no matter how resilient, no matter how stable his or her family is, can survive that without harm and hurt. That’s why we set up Just ASK, a kind of homework club and supportive social space where children and young people can feel safe, can be themselves – and be constructively challenged and encouraged to be the best they can be.

This year a team of 10 had planned to cycle from Paris to Nice cycle to raise more vital funds to support many more projects like Just ASK.  But, this cycle along with all our fundraising events have had to be cancelled on foot of Covid-19. Sadly, the demand for the critical services we fund has never been higher.

As the country rebuilds, no child’s future should hang in the balance because of this virus or a lack of support. If our children aren’t rebuilt, the country isn’t either.

The IYF is rallying a team of 30 to cycle 100k with us and reach our target of €10k.

We are asking each cyclist to raise a minimum €200 which will cover your participation in the event, coffee stop, lots of laughs and a much deserved drink and bite to eat at the end of the cycle, The Old Spot Restaurant, Bath Avenue, Dublin 4.

The money raised from our charity cycle goes straight to helping disadvantaged and at-risk children. You’ll be directly supporting exemplary and proven projects and activities that bring vulnerable children and young adults back from the extreme margins. You’ll be helping undo the damage caused by the Covid-19 lock-down and reopening pathways back to safety, to participation, to education, to building a future.

Thank you so much for dusting those wheels down in aid of a great cause.
