National Youth Film & Animation School

The Irish Film Board are funding this unique bursary aimed at supporting young  people living in disadvantaged circumstance (16-18yrs) who might be planning a career or college placement in Film or Television.  We are reaching out to youth and community workers to nominate a young person they feel would benefit from a fantastic programme like the National Youth Film & Animation School.  You may know of a young person in your youth group or youth arts programme who has a talent or passion for film making or is interested in animation.  They don’t have to be a genius, as they will be mentored and supported throughout the programme in all aspects of the film making or animation process.

What does the bursary cover?

The bursary will cover the young person’s fees and travel costs to make sure there are no financial barriers for them to participate in the programme.  The programme fees cover full bed & board with three meals a day served on site at the school canteen.  There is also an additional pocket money fund available if this is deemed necessary.  There is very little need for pocket money as there are only one or two off site activities such as a cinema night or a trip to the theatre. The young people will be kept busy making films or taking part in game nights during free time.

Welfare of the young person?

As this is a residential programme, there will be 24 hour supervision with Overnight & Daytime Welfare Officers on hand to look after any needs the young people attending may have.  Young Irish Film Makers are the organisers of this programme and have all the relevant Garda Vetting, child protection training, policies and procedures in place.

10 Day Residential Film camp (Kilkenny, 13-23 August 2018)

The film making programme will accommodate young filmmakers from all over Ireland to immerse them in the world of film making with practical training workshops, intensive shooting days and long hours in the edit suite.  The camp will include interactive workshops in all aspects of filmmaking – from writing to lighting, production to editing – all with experts in the field, coupled with the experience of working on a professional film crew.  The final films will premiere in front of an industry audience in the autumn to showcase the young talent.

The 5 Day Residential Animation Camp (Kilkenny, 13-17 August 2018)

This year we are introducing a residential Animation school to run alongside the film making school.  This will bring young creative artists together from all across Ireland to work with professional animators who will teach them the foundations of animation, giving them an amazing opportunity to develop their craft and prepare for a college placement or career in animation.  With mentorship from some great industry professionals, you will have an opportunity to stretch your drawing muscles and get a fully animated workout!  And we are in the hometown of three time Oscar nominated Cartoon Saloon, so you never know who might drop in to say hello and share some wisdom.

In the autumn, there will be a screening of their work and portfolio workshops will be hosted at The National Film School in IADT for students who are preparing to apply for college to study film, television or animation.  This unique workshop gives students the tools they need to present their work in a portfolio format.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”full_width_background” full_screen_row_position=”middle” bg_color=”#ffffff” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” top_padding=”5%” bottom_padding=”5%” overlay_strength=”0.95″ shape_divider_color=”#7cc144″ shape_divider_position=”bottom” shape_divider_height=”350″ shape_type=”mountains”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” width=”1/1″ tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”50″][vc_column_text]
